The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is thrilled to announce that the multi-sensory immersive experience DARKFIELD has been extended due to popular demand. Running through September 1 in the River North Art District, this unique event continues to captivate audiences with its three distinct experiences: SÉANCE, FLIGHT, and COMA.
DARKFIELD, created by UK-based artistic directors David Rosenberg and Glen Neath, has been a global sensation, touring extensively in the UK, Australia, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia. The company is renowned for its innovative use of 360-degree binaural audio, complete darkness, and sensory effects to create intense and immersive experiences inside transformed shipping containers. DARKFIELD has also featured in prestigious film festivals such as the BFI London Film Festival, Venice, IDFA, Tribeca, and SXSW, and won Columbia’s Digital Storytelling Lab’s Breakthrough Award in 2021 for its groundbreaking narrative.
Each DARKFIELD experience offers something unique:
- SÉANCE: Transforms a shipping container into a Victorian séance room, immersing participants in a psychological exploration of belief and fear.
- FLIGHT: Simulates a turbulent flight, blurring the lines between reality and the supernatural.
- COMA: Places participants in a clinical setting, exploring themes of control and trust through sensory manipulation.
Ben Kulvichit from Exeunt Magazine described DARKFIELD as “a reminder of one’s closeness at all times to death that spits you out into the sunlight feeling palpably, certainly, alive”. This immersive theatre experience challenges participants’ perceptions and delves deep into human psychology, making it a must-see event.
“We’re so excited to officially launch DARKFIELD in the United States and to be part of such an amazing season at the DCPA,” said DARKFIELD Artistic Directors David Rosenberg and Glen Neath. “We’ve wanted to tour our containers to the US for as long as we’ve been creating DARKFIELD experiences, so it feels like a dream come true to be bringing not one but three of our containers to Colorado, alongside our brilliant partners. We’re really looking forward to seeing how audiences in Denver react to SÉANCE, FLIGHT, and COMA”, said DARKFIELD Artistic Directors David Rosenberg and Glen Neath.
DCPA’s Executive Director and Curator of Off-Center, Charlie Miller, added, “DARKFIELD experiences have wowed audiences and critics around the world, and I can’t wait to bring SÉANCE, FLIGHT, and COMA to the RiNo Art District this summer. We are excited and honored to be launching the DARKFIELD US tour in Denver and to share these uniquely thrilling experiences with our community”.
Gamers and XR enthusiasts will appreciate the cutting-edge technology and immersive storytelling that DARKFIELD offers. The complete darkness and binaural audio create an experience akin to stepping into a highly interactive and sensory-driven game or virtual reality environment. Each experience places you at the center of an intense, evolving narrative, challenging your perceptions and evoking strong psychological responses.
